About Our Clinic
We treat your pet the way we would treat our own.
Town and Country Veterinary Medical Center has been a privately owned clinic serving the people of The Killeen, Ft Cavasos (Formerly Ft. Hood), Copperas Cove, Harker Heights, Lampassas and beyond.
It started with Dr. Gene W Ray as a solo, mixed animal practitioner at 608 E Elms Rd in Killeen (not far from our current location) over 40 years ago.
Military personnel have been the lifeblood of this area and the future of Town & Country was no different. In the 80's Dr. Ray was joined by Dr. Mitchell Jacobs, a retired officer from Alabama.
There were a handful of veterinarians over the years that helped out from time to time but in the middle 2000's Dr. Austin Ledger, a native from Copperas Cove, joined the team as the third permanent veterinarian. In mid 2010's the 4th permanent veterinarian joined the group with Dr. Corey Dutkiewicz who is himself a local of Killeen.
Since then Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Ray have retired and Town & Country has exploded to become a 7 doctor practice. We are proud to serve the members of the central Texas community and do our best everyday to try and offer improved services to as many people as we can.
Thank you for trusting your family to our family.

Keeping up with routine wellness care is a must when it comes to giving your pet the healthiest, happiest life possible. Composed of services like physical exams, vaccinations, microchipping, parasite prevention, routine lab work, and nutrition counseling, wellness care is intended to ward off disease while providing opportunities for us to detect early warning signs of health problems. At Town and Country Vet, we strongly believe that these services form a solid foundation for a healthy life, and we’d be thrilled to have your pet as a patient if they’re in need of wellness care.
One of the most important components of being a caring and responsible pet parent is having your dog or cat vaccinated and keeping them up to date on boosters.
Modern vaccinations are extremely effective at protecting companion animals from a wide range of avoidable illnesses.
Despite what you might think, dealing with your dog or cat’s foul-smelling breath isn’t a normal part of pet parenthood.
Bad breath is actually a sign of periodontal disease, which affects most companion animals by the age of three. Periodontal disease usually begins with relatively minor symptoms, like stinky breath and tooth discoloration, but it quickly evolves into a much more serious issue. Without treatment, it can cause everything from tooth loss and difficulty eating to organ damage and premature death.
An emergency involving your beloved pet is likely one of your worst fears. While you might not want to think about your furry friend suffering from a severe injury or illness, you need to know where to turn if such a situation arises. At Town And Country Veterinary Medical Center, we provide urgent and emergency care for pets during our regular business hours. We understand this is a stressful time and will do everything we can to help your companion in need.
As a responsible pet owner, you want to give your dog or cat a diet that satisfies their nutritional requirements. Unfortunately, a stroll down the pet food aisle at a nearby supermarket immediately demonstrates how difficult it is to choose the correct food. How can you decide which brands, recipes, and flavors are best for your beloved companion when there are seemingly limitless options?
Town And Country Medical Center's veterinarians are available to help. We believe nutrition is extremely important for your pet's general health and will guide you in choosing the right food for your cat or dog. We are delighted to offer nutritional consulting and will help you get your furry friend on the right diet.
Whether your pet needs a routine operation or a more complex procedure, it’s natural to feel some apprehension when sending a beloved companion in for surgery.
When you choose the skilled and compassionate team at Town And Country Veterinary Medical Center, you have nothing to fear. We perform various surgical procedures, and you can rest assured that your furry friend will be in excellent hands every step of the way. If your pet needs surgery, we are here for you!
While nearly every veterinarian is equipped to care for dogs and cats, the same cannot be said for exotic pets.
Finding a veterinarian with the knowledge to care for unique pets is often tricky, which makes it hard for pet parents to get their companions the care they need. At Town And Country Veterinary Medical Center, we’re here to help you overcome this all-too-common problem. We provide exotic pet care in Killeen and are equipped to care for avians, reptiles, pocket pets, and small animals. If your furry, scaly, or feathery friend needs a veterinarian, we’d love to meet them!
